Here’s a fun and simple activity that’s perfect for a hot, summer day. Homemade Ice Cream Right Now! No Machine Required! is from Simply Montessori.
The recipe is easy enough that your child can make it alone or with just a little help from you. You only need milk, vanilla, sugar, salt, ice cubes, and two ziplock bags.
I experimented with a health-food/vegan variation of the recipe by using soy milk or almond milk instead of regular milk and 3 T. honey instead of 4 T. sugar. That was yummy as well!
Do you have a new variation of the ice cream recipe?

Stopping by from Monday Mingle!
Thanks for stopping by and commenting, Cherees. My parents make homemade ice cream with a machine, so I'm having lots of fun with this version. Brings back happy memories!
I’m doing a preschool camp this week and next. We’ll definitely try this!!
Thanks for your comment, Betsy! That would be fun for a preschool camp … have a great week! 🙂
As soon as I saw this come up on FB I knew what it was, lol. My kids learned to do this at their Montessori elementary school! How funny, brings back memories!
Thanks for your comment, Sheila! I think it’s a great activity – fun for kids and a nice way for anyone to make some quick ice cream! 🙂
Starting this month, January, I will be hosting raw and/or vegan potlucks. I look forward to trying the no-machine ice-cream!

I just found this, Asia! I hope you’ve been enjoying your potlucks! I just published a new post with a free printable vegan ice cream in a bag recipe page for kids at https://livingmontessorinow.com/2012/07/23/montessori-monday-montessori-inspired-natural-ice-cream-in-a-bag/.
Does anyone know if this will work with soy or almond milk? Thanks!
Hi Lacey! It definitely works with soy or almond milk. I actually make all my ice cream in a bag with soy or almond milk! I tested the recipe on this page using soy milk: https://livingmontessorinow.com/2012/07/23/montessori-monday-montessori-inspired-natural-ice-cream-in-a-bag/.
